Simeon Oriko – Mobile Cloud Computing from Africa Gathering on Vimeo.
Simeon spoke passionately at the Gathering about “African Solutions to African problems”, explaining that in his opinion “Africans think differently than others”. He focussed on mobile cloud computing: “the power and the beauty of this concept is the number of users it can reach, especially in Africa, whereby most of us cannot afford a laptops but can afford a mobile phone”.
Renewable Energy Ventures Kenya from Africa Gathering on Vimeo.
Joseph Nganga came to the gathering to talk about how by “creating demand for new technology, we encourage investors to invest in this space and drive innovation”, adding that there is limited focus on household level technology – though there should be, for all sorts of reasons from education to Health benefits.
Nkeiru Joe – Vrije Universiteit Brussel from Africa Gathering on Vimeo.
Nkeiru came to the gathering to talk about connectivity and international law. She metioned that as of 2009 only 7 African States were members of the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) and that she hoped that would change. She went on to say that Africa needs some kind of cross-cultural data and information exchange – if progress is to be achieved, you can’t exist in isolation
Agosta Liko – Pesa Pal from Africa Gathering on Vimeo.
Pay Pal, used and loved by millions in the ‘Northern Countries’, is sanctioned in pretty much all of Africa. So what can Africans use to pay for services online? Here Agosta Liko addresses this issue with the advent of his new service Pesa Pal. Can Pesa Pal further open up the fast developing Africa online and mobile payments systems?
